Playing levels explained
Your level is a number on a 0–10 scale. It is the same idea everywhere on Open Active: your profile stores a universal playing level, and each club ladder can move your current level up or down as match results are recorded.
When you first join a club ladder you usually pick a starting level between 1 and 8. Levels toward 9–10 are typically reached by winning competitive ladder matches, not by self-rating.
- 0 – 2Learning the game
New players building basics: serves, returns, and keeping rallies going. Club socials and coaching groups are a good fit.
- 2 – 4Club beginner / social
Comfortable in short rallies and common situations. You can enjoy box leagues and social mix-ins without needing everything to be perfect.
- 4 – 6Club intermediate
Reliable strokes, some tactics, and steadier points. You can hold your own in most club ladders and inter-club friendly fixtures.
- 6 – 8Strong club / advanced
Consistent power or craft, good shot selection, and pressure play. Often near the top of a club ladder or playing regional events.
- 8 – 10Elite / high performance
Very high standard: tournament-level consistency, athleticism, or tactical depth. On ladders, these numbers are usually earned through results.
Exact numbers (for example 4.2 vs 4.8) are finer than these bands. If you are between two descriptions, pick the lower band until match results show you belong higher.
